"The results were unprecedented and dramatic. Of those in the test group who followed the lifestyle program, 82 percent showed blockage reversal, which significantly increased blood flow through their arteries and lessened their chances of having heart attacks.
In 53 percent of those in the control group, blockages worsened, even though they followed the recommendations that doctors almost universally prescribe for heart patients. Their chances for heart attack had increased.
Even more dramatic, incidences of chest pain (angina) were reduced by 91 percent in the test group, yet they increased by 165 percent in the control subjects. Finally, in an important test, Ornish found that the more closely that patients adhered to the program, the more their arteries cleared."
